The Voice hits ratings low as Jessie J is accused of fixing the results

The singer is said to have made an pre-arrangement with fellow judge Danny O'Donoghue over the results of the 'battle round'

Reality singing competition The Voice scored a series low last night (May 25), with ratings only reaching 5.9 million – a reported 1.48 million down from the previous episode.

The show, which came under criticism last year after 2012 winner Leanne Mitchell failed to make the Top 40 and The Voice UK tour was cancelled due to poor ticket sales, was also struck by controversy, with pop star and show mentor Jessie J accused of rigging the results.

Jessie J, who is a judge on the show alongside Tom Jones, will.i.am and The Script’s Danny O’Donaghue, is reported to have made a pre-arrangement with O’Donaghue to save one singer in the program’s head-to-head battle rounds, whilst The Script man would then go on to ‘steal’ the other contestant for his own team.

The source then goes on to state, “Viewers were led to believe Jessie was facing a decision between the artists based on their battle, but it was already a done deal. It makes a mockery of the idea that a singer’s fate hangs on how they perform on the night.”

This comes after Queen guitarist Brian May’s statement earlier this week that The Voice is “the ultimate insult to music”. Writing on his website, the legendary musician expressed his vehement dislike of the show, saying “Sorry, hate to be negative but The Voice is the dullest, dumbest, most depressing show on TV. It’s the ultimate insult to music and to performers.”

May also stated that he wished that Tom Jones was not a part of it and that he hoped the “vile show dies a natural death very soon.
