JJ72 LIVE CREW!

Fergal Matthews gets over his dodgy ankle to thump the tubs once more...

JJ72 drummer FERGAL MATTHEWS rejoined the band last night (January 22) for the second of their NME CARLING AWARDS shows in NEWCASTLE after having to pull out of the show in GLASGOW the previous night after he hurt his ankle.

The drummer spent a day-and-a-half, following the injury to his ankle on Saturday (January 20) at a show in Derby, practising with a kit set up in the opposite way from normal – as if for a left handed/footed drummer.

He managed to learn the set and a spokesperson told NME.COM this morning (January 23) that he will now complete the tour, with JJ72 returning to their headline slot.

Fergal had injured his ankle as the band finished a warm-up show at Derby University on Saturday (January 20). To leave the stage they had to exit via the photographer’s pit at the front, and as they jumped into it, an over-eager fan grabbed Fergal, badly twisting his ankle.

The ankle remains badly swollen, forcing him to approach and leave the stage on crutches. JJ72 had drafted in a friend Glen Rowe, drummer with the band Coda, to take Fergal’s place on the stool. Despite a day of intensive practise he was not needed.

JJ72, will be continue the tour with Amen, Alfie and Starsailor in Leeds tonight.
