MASSES AGAINST THE GLASSES

The legend's spectacles are taken from his recently-unveiled statue in Havana...

JOHN LENNON’s glasses were stolen from a statue of the legend in HAVANA, CUBA shortly before Christmas, according to reports in Communist Youth newspaper JUVENTUD REBELDE.

The newspaper reports that the glasses on the life-sized bronze statue, which was unveiled on the 20th anniversary of his death on December 8 by Cuban president Fidel Castro, were stolen on December 21, allegedly after a security guard left his post to shelter during a rain shower.

The statue was commissioned after Lennon was declared a “man of progressive anti-imperialist ideas”. The sculptor who made the statue, Jose Villar, said that they would be replaced and would be permanently attached.
