The veteran Radio 1 DJ has been honoured by the Radio Academy...

JOHN PEEL has been inducted into the BROADCASTING HALL OF FAME.

Set up by the Radio Academy last year to recognise exceptional service to the medium, previous inductees include Kenny Everett, Alastair Cooke and Tony Blackburn.

Peel, a long-time champion of new and alternative music, has been with Radio 1 since its launch in 1967 and has a radio career that spans 40 years.

Joining Peel in the Hall Of Fame is Chris Tarrant, who is shortly to be replaced on London station Capital’s breakfast show by Johnny Vaughan.
