Johnny Marr announces new album ‘Call The Comet’ and album launch shows – watch the exclusive trailer

Check out new single 'The Tracers'

Johnny Marr has announced details of his new album ‘Call The Comet’ along with details of live shows. See the exclusive trailer on NME first below along with new single ‘The Tracers’.

Following on from his acclaimed solo records with ‘The Messenger’ and ‘Playland’, the former Smiths guitarist returns with ‘Call The Comet’ – recorded in his own ‘Crazy Face’ studios in Manchester and due for release on June 15.

“Call The Comet’ is my own magic realism,” said Marr of the album. “It’s set in the not-too-distant future and is mostly concerned with the idea of an alternative society. The characters in the songs are searching for a new idealism, although there are some personal songs in there too. It’s something that people like me can relate to.”

To launch the album, Marr has also dropped new single ‘The Tracers’. In our track-by-track guide to the record, we wrote of the track: “Johnny’s own personal favourite on the record, and we can’t help but agree. Loaded with “woops”, hooks and a constant rumbling tension,

“‘The Tracers’ is the perfect balance between his knack for pop and the cinematic mastery he’s demonstrated with his pal Hans Zimmer. It’s like a runaway train to the future, and we don’t want to get off.”

The tracklist for ‘Call The Comet’ is:

  1. ‘Rise’
  2. ‘The Tracers’
  3. ‘Hey Angel’
  4. ‘Hi Hello’
  5. ‘New Dominions’
  6. ‘Day In Day Out’
  7. ‘Walk Into The Sea’
  8. ‘Bug’
  9. ‘Actor Attractor’
  10. ‘Spiral Cities’
  11. ‘My Eternal’
  12. A Different Gun’
