A collection of Ian Curtis‘ personal writings titled So This Is Permanence: Lyrics and Notebooks is to be published next year.
The book will be edited by author Jon Savage with a foreword by his widow Deborah Curtis. So This Is Permanence is described as “a collection of the intensely personal writings” of the late Joy Division singer and will intersperse song lyrics with unpublished pages from his notebooks, which are said to “throw his lyrics into relief and cast light on the creative process of this influential and legendary songwriter”.
So This Is Permanence: Lyrics and Notebooks will be published by Faber and Faber in Spring 2014.
Meanwhile, Peter Hook has revealed that he is in discussions with a former studio assistant who is selling a set of original master tapes by Joy Division and New Order with a view to releasing them officially. As reported earlier this year, tapes that were found after they had been thrown away have now been put up for sale by Julia Adamson, a former assistant to producer Martin Hannett.
Adamson discovered the original masters and outtakes from albums such as Joy Division’s ‘Unknown Pleasures’ as well as music by New Order, The Psychedelic Furs, Magazine and many more in a bin some years ago, but is selling the physical copies now after digitising them in 2008.
