The rapper made the comments in a newly published Vanity Fair interview
Kanye West has compared himself to Will Ferrell’s character in the movie Elf while talking about his fashion work in a new interview.
Speaking to Vanity Fair, the rapper described sweatshirts as “fucking important”, stating that he hopes for clothes to “almost be invisible, to be one with the personality”. He added, “You know when you see people’s dogs look like them? I want people’s clothes to look like them”.
West recently teamed up with Adidas for a collaborative clothing line. Unveiled at New York Fashion Week, his appearance at the event saw him face criticism after announcing a last-minute show that clashed with many other designers.
Apologising for this, West told Vanity Fair: “I totally apologise to any of those designers and anyone that wanted that slot. I would love to send them some flowers or maybe wear a sweatshirt if that could help to make up for it. A lot of times I feel like Will Ferrell in the movie Elf. You know this big guy that wants to [join in] and his hands are a little bit too big… I could just say please forgive me if I ever step on any toes, because there’s nothing that I would ever want to do or say that would take away from any designer, that would take away from anyone’s work or what they’re working so hard on.”
Elsewhere in the interview, West said that he is “definitely” still running for President in 2020 though he is against the idea of a traditional election where candidates face off against one another.
“When I run for president, I’d prefer not to run against someone,” he said. “I would be like ‘I want to work with you.’ As soon as I heard [Republican candidate] Ben Carson speak, I tried for three weeks to get on the phone with him. I was like this is the most brilliant guy. And I think all the people running right now have something that each of the others needs. But the idea of this separation and this gladiator battle takes away from the main focus that the world needs help and the world needs all the people in a position of power or influence to come together.”
Kanye also offered fans an update on the status of his new album ‘Swish’, admitting that it could be another year until the album is released.
West has previously suggested that the follow up to 2013 album ‘Yeezus’ would arrive this year. However, it has so far failed to materialise despite the release of single ‘All Day’ in March.
West described ‘Swish’ as being a “two-year painting” and admits that he could still be working on the record in another 12 months. “I’ve been doing that [making a new album] too,” he said. “That’s like a sonic landscape, a two-year painting.”
In a recent interview with NME, Rihanna revealed that she is waiting for West to be free so she can finish recording her new album with him. Similarly, Justin Bieber has said that he too is working with West on new music that boasts a “New York vibe.”
