Kanye West calls comedian to complain over MTV VMA jokes

Jay Pharoah received a call from rapper after mocking him at award ceremony

Kanye West has revealed that he called comedian Jay Pharoah to address comments made about him at the MTV VMAs last month (August).

In a speech made halfway through his set at the Made In America Festival on August 30, West revealed he told Pharaoh that his life and career was “not a joke”, and “I appreciate your show, but let me tell you about my story.”

According to the New York Daily News, West went on to say: “They want to make a joke out of how hard we work. It’s fine and all funny and everything, but don’t distract from our vision.”

The subject of the rapper’s relationship with Kim Kardashian was also covered in the speech, with West saying, “For me to be in a very publicised interracial relationship… it’s not a joke. It’s something that should be treated with respect, because we’re all in this together.”

West has previously been criticised for his mid-set monologues, having been booed in July for a 10-minute rant at London’s Wireless Festival.
