Rapper appears at conference in Germany to launch new shoe
Kanye West has confirmed that he will release the first shoe as part of his deal with Adidas in June.
West, who was previously in partnership with rival company Nike, signed a deal with Adidas in 2013 and appeared at the German company’s Global Brand Conference in Bamberg last night (April 7). He revealed plans for his own signature shoe, which will be called the Yeezy.
During his speech, West praised Adidas for being “brave” in doing business with him. “To get to the point to be able to make your own shoe, and have people react to it, was such an amazing feeling that I can never let go,” West said. “When I create and when we create, it’s not based off the idea of celebrity advertising.”
He continued: “This was the company that was experienced and brave enough to let me create.” Watch West’s full speech about the Yeezy below.
Speaking previously about his Adidas deal back in 2013, West referred to himself as the “Tupac of product” and claimed that he was going to be “bigger than Walmart”.
Earlier this month it was reported that West is had cancelled an Australian tour in order to finish work on his new album, the follow up to 2013 record ‘Yeezus’.
