Highly anticipated new release isn't even out until September
Kasabian‘s new album is already storming the charts – even though it’s not released until September.
‘Velociraptor!’ is close to taking the top spot on many pre-order lists after getting a boost from the band headlining the Isle Of Wight festival last month.
‘Velociraptor’ was recorded in the band’s hometown of Leicester and then mixed and produced in San Francisco.
The band’s profile has also been boosted by the success of recent single ‘Switchblade Smiles’, which they offered as a free download for those pre-ordering on their official site.
Guitarist Serge Pizzorno has said the new album is very different to their previous release, 2009’s ‘West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum’.
He told NME: “It’s heavier than I thought it would be. It squares up to you and doesn’t leave you alone. It’s really in your face.
It’s a real jukebox album, just tune after tune, with really strong verses and really strong choruses.”
‘West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum’ was nominated for the Mercury Music Prize and went straight to number one on the UK chart. It sold over 600,000 copies and included number three single ‘Fire’, which was their best performing ever. The new release has been written and produced by Pizzorno and is due for release on September 19.
The band are set to play a free gig later this month at the iTunes Festival in London.
