Tom Meighan and co dedicate award to late Monkees singer Davy Jones
Kasabian have revealed their plans for a follow-up to their chart-topping 2011 album ‘Velociraptor!’ in an exclusive video interview you can watch above.
Speaking to NME after picking up the Best British Band gong at the O2 Academy Brixton ceremony last night (February 29), singer Tom Meighan said their fifth album has the working title ‘Trial By Stone’.
However, the frontman said the band plan to complete touring duties for ‘Velociraptor!’ before they hit the studio to start work on the material. Meighan declared:
‘Trial By Stone’ is the working title for the record, I want to call it ‘Trial By Stone’. Serge [Pizzorno, guitarist] might change it, he might not, but ‘Trial By Stone’ sounds pretty good.
After dedicating their award to The Monkees’ Davy Jones, who died yesterday, during their acceptance speech at the podium, Meighan reiterated his admiration for the legendary musician.
“It’s nice [to win] it’s an achievement … I’m over the moon. But fuck tonight man, tonight belongs to Davy Jones from The Monkees. There’s a hole in rock’n’roll – I dedicate that award to him.”
Earlier in the evening, Kasabian kicked the ceremony off with a double-header performance of ‘Switchblade Smiles’ and ‘Days Are Forgotten’. Meanwhile, Florence walked away with two gongs – for Best Solo Artist and Best Track for ‘Shake It Out’ – while The Horrors scooped the Best Album award for ‘Skying’.
