Katy Perry scores fourth UK Number One single with ‘Roar’

The track also marks the singer's fastest-selling UK single of her career

Katy Perry has scored her fourth Number One single as ‘Roar’ raced to the top of the Official UK Singles Chart this evening (September 8).

The%20track,%20which%20is%20the%20first%20to%20be%20taken%20from%20Perry’s%20forthcoming%20new%20album%20’Prism’,%20has%20also%20become%20her%20fastest-selling%20UK%20single%20of%20her%20career%20after%20it%20sold%20179,500%20copies%20in%20its%20first%20week%20on%20sale.%20Previously,%20her%202010%20track%20’California%20Gurls’,%20which%20featured%20a%20guest%20appearance%20from%20Snoop%20Dogg,%20held%20that%20title,%20having%20sold%20123,600%20copies%20in%20the%20initial%20seven%20days%20it%20was%20available.%20’Roar’%20is%20also%20the%20third%20fastest-selling%20single%20in%20the%20UK%20this%20year,%20behind%20Avicii’s%20’Wake%20Me%20Up’%20and%20Robin%20Thicke’s%20’Blurred%20Lines%20ft%20TI%20&%20Pharrell%20Williams’.%20

Speaking%20to%20Radio%201’s%20Official%20Chart%20show%20host%20Jameela%20Jamil,%20Perry%20expressed%20her%20excitement%20at%20topping%20the%20chart%20once%20again,%20saying:%20″I%20love%20the%20UK!%20The%20UK%20is%20one%20of%20the%20most%20important%20groups%20of%20people%20in%20the%20world%20for%20me%20because%20I%20feel%20like%20the%20UK%20is%20so%20ahead%20of%20the%20zeitgeist…%20They%20are%20the%20zeitgeist!%20I%20love%20going%20over%20there,%20and%20I’m%20going%20to%20be%20going%20over%20several%20times%20this%20year.”

Meanwhile,%20in%20the%20Official UK Albums Chart, The 1975‘s self-titled debut album has knocked Avenged Sevenfold off the top spot to claim the Number One Album this week and has outsold Nine Inch Nails‘ ‘Hesitation Marks’ by two and a half copies to one. The Trent Reznor-fronted band have claimed this week’s Number Two spot, marking the best chart placing of their career. Babyshambles have scored their second Top 10 album with their third record ‘Sequel To The Prequel’ has entered the charts at Number 10.
