Singer has reportedly been writing songs about break-up
Katy Perry has pulled out of a planned appearance at an awards ceremony following her split from Russell Brand last month.
The ‘Firework’ singer was due to appear at the People’s Choice Awards in the US tonight (January 11), where she’s up for gongs including Favourite Female Artist and Favourite Song Of The Year.
However, she took to her Twitter page to announce she wouldn’t be attending, commenting:
Unfortunately I will not be able to attend the People’s Choice Awards. I want to thank u all for voting for me, fingers crossed.
Brand filed for divorce from Perry in December, citing “irreconcilable differences”.
Reports claimed that that the couple had spent Christmas apart from each other and both then were pictured separately without their wedding rings.
Brand subsequently released a statement which said that although the pair were ending their marriage, he still “adored” Perry and insisted that they would “remain friends”.
It was reported Perry had encouraged Brand to arrange the divorce to avoid upsetting her religious parents.
It’s also believed Perry is currently writing songs about the end of their 14-month marriage.
