'Writing is almost a form of therapy for her,' says friend
Katy Perry is writing break-up songs about her split with Russell Brand, according to reports.
MTV claims that the ‘California Gurls’ singer has been penning lyrics about the demise of her relationship with Brand, who filed divorce papers last week citing “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for their break-up (December 30).
“Ever since problems started to emerge, she penned her thoughts in a diary which she goes back to to draw upon lyrics for her songs,” said a source close to the star.
They went on to add:
She has always said that writing is almost a form of therapy for her and she would often be found in her dressing room on tour writing in her diary.
It was reported last week that Perry had encouraged Brand to file for divorce from her rather than arranging it herself to avoid upsetting her religious parents. Reports suggested that her evangelical Christian parents raised her to believe divorce is wrong, leaving Brand to formally arrange the split.
Perry and Brand were married for 14 months before they announced the end of their relationship. Reports claimed that that the couple had spent Christmas apart from each other and both then were pictured separately without their wedding rings.
Brand subsequently released a statement which said that although the pair were ending their marriage, he still “adored” Perry and insisted that they would “remain friends”.
Perry, who has spent much of the last two years on tour in support of her latest studio album ‘Teenage Dream’, has yet to issue a statement about the separation.
