Former Destiny's Child member says she prayed 'Give me two bars'

Kelly Rowland has claimed that God gave her mobile phone reception when she was stranded at sea in a recent boating accident.

As reported last month, Rowland was on board a boat that was rescued after being lost at sea. The singer and American X Factor judge was on board a rented boat that was following a whale-watching vessel. The captain lost sight of the boat in front and became disorientated. The coastguard was alerted and a commercial towboat was sent to escort them back to shore, where they were taken to Provincetown, at the tip of Cape Cod, Massachusetts.

Speaking about the accident and how she came to be rescued, Rowland told Metro: “I remember thinking to myself, ‘Lord, please don’t let this boat capsize’.” She added: “I was like, ‘Please Lord, give me two bars. He gave me two bars and we contacted some folks that were on land and they helped us.” The boat was 33 miles (53km) north of Provincetown when it was stranded.

Kelly Rowland and Mexican singer and actress Paulina Rubio were recently hired by Simon Cowell as judges on the US version of The X Factor. The pair will join Cowell on the panel along with pop singer Demi Lovato. They replace Britney Spears and record producer Antonio ‘LA’ Reid. Cowell has rejigged the judging panel after each season – previously firing singers Paula Abdul and Nicole Scherzinger after disappointing ratings which last season fell from 12.5 million per episode in 2011 to an average of 9.7 million.

Kelly Rowland previously joined the judging panel on the UK X Factor in 2011.
