Kelly Rowland to replace Britney Spears on the X Factor US

Paulina Rubio will join Simon Cowell and Demi Lovato on the panel

Former Destiny’s Child singer Kelly Rowland and Mexican singer and actress Paulina Rubio have been hired by Simon Cowell as judges on the US version of The X Factor.

Rowland and Rubio will join Cowell on the panel along with pop singer Demi Lovato. They replace Britney Spears and record producer Antonio ‘LA’ Reid. Cowell has rejigged the judging panel after each season – previously firing singers Paula Abdul and Nicole Scherzinger after disappointing ratings which last season fell from 12.5 million per episode in 2011 to an average of 9.7 million.

“It’s taken more than a decade but I’m delighted to finally be on a panel with three girls (I think!). Paulina and Kelly both have great taste and massive experience in the music industry and together with Demi, this is going to be a fun panel. It just feels like the time to do something different,” Simon Cowell said in a statement.

Kelly Rowland previously joined the judging panel on the UK X Factor in 2011. The show will enter its third season in the US this autumn, and auditions begin on Tuesday in Charleston, South Carolina, and run through July to find the upcoming season’s crop of aspiring artists for the $5 million prize.
