LA rapper performs cover version at first ever iHeartMusic Awards last night (May 1)

Kendrick Lamar performed a cover of Tupac’s ‘California Love’ at the iHeartMusic Awards in Los Angeles last night (May 1).

The inaugural awards ceremony was held at Shrine Auditorium and also saw performances from Pharrell Williams and Arcade Fire, with the Canadian band introduced to the stage by Breaking Bad actor Aaron Paul.

Speaking prior to his performance of the 1995 track, Lamar recalls being eight years old and his uncle taking him to see the video for the track being filmed near to his home in Compton. “Fifteen, twenty years later and I’m out here doing the same thing they were doing.” Lamar ends the performance by playing his own song, ‘Compton’.
