Hear Kid Cudi sample a Smashing Pumpkins classic on new track ‘The Rage’

Rapper incorporates 'Bullet with Butterfly Wings' into 'Rampage' soundtrack song

Kid Cudi has released his Smashing Pumpkins-sampling new track ‘The Rage’.

The rapper is no stranger to alternative music, having sampled the likes of St Vincent in the past and worked with both Haim and Father John Misty.

‘The Rage’ samples Smashing Pumpkins’ classic 1995 song ‘Bullet with Butterfly Wings’ and features on the soundtrack for new Dwayne Johnson movie Rampage.

Recent weeks have seen a budding friendship between Kid Cudi and Timothée Chalamet.

Call Me By Your Name star Chalamet recently credited Cudi with saving his acting career, revealing that the rapper gave him some sage advice after a show in 2014. The pair later reunited at a GQ party in February.

Then, in March, Cudi labelled Chalamet his “favourite artist” of the moment, leading the actor to freak out on Twitter.

Smashing Pumpkins, meanwhile, are working on new music after reuniting most of its classic-era line-up.

Frontman Billy Corgan made headlines recently with his alleged interactions with ex-bandmate D’Arcy Wretzky. The former Pumpkins bassist shared screengrabs of an apparent conversation with Corgan in which they discussed possibility of her rejoining the band. The conversation appeared to contradict Corgan’s version of events.

Despite saying that he feels “attacked by the mob”, Corgan has said that it is “the happiest time” that the Smashing Pumpkins have ever experienced as a band, whilst also admitting that bridges with Wretzky have been burned “forever” following their public feud.
