Robbie Williams, Elton John, Chris Cornell are also in the running

Lady Gaga, The National and She And Him‘s Zooey Deschanel are amongst the artists on the longlist for the 2012 Academy Award for Best Song.

There are 39 songs on the longlist vying for one of the five nomination places. Lady Gaga and Elton John‘s duet ‘Hello Hello’ from Gnomeo and Juliet and Zooey Deschanel’s ‘So Long’ from Winnie the Pooh are both in the running, as is Robbie Williams and Brad Paisley’s duet ‘Collision of Worlds’ from Cars 2.

Bret McKenzie from Flight of the Conchords is nominated for two songs from The Muppets; ‘Man or Muppet’ and ‘Life’s A Happy Song’, in addition to The National for ‘Think You Can Wait’ from Win-Win and Chris Cornell for ‘The Keeper’ from Machine Gun Preacher.‘s Rio song ‘Hot Wings’ and Mary J. Blige‘s ‘Living Proof’ from The Help are also on the longlist, reports Hollywood Reporter.

The 84th annual Academy Awards nominations will be announced January 24, 2012.
