Allen drafted in at last minute to replace band in their headline slot this weekend

Lily Allen has said that she is too “exhausted by nastiness” to tolerate negative messages she was receiving from Twitter users upset at her replacing the band as Latitude Festival headliner.

As reported yesterday (July 16), Two Door Cinema Club are no longer able to perform at the Suffolk event this weekend as frontman Alex Trimble has fallen ill and is recuperating in hospital. They will be replaced by Allen, who said in a statement that she is “more than happy” to step in at the last minute.

However, the news did not please everybody. Allen tweeted about the “rude” messages she was receiving online following the change in headliner.

“If you’re going to be rude about my replacing @TDCinemaClub on here, can you just un @ me please?” she tweeted. “I’m so exhausted by the nastiness. I understand that you’re disappointed but I don’t think that warrants abuse. They asked, I accepted, I will give it my all, + hope you enjoy.”

Fans at the festival in Suffolk have also been promised a surprise guest performance on Friday evening.

Talking about the change at the top of the bill, Latitude’s Managing Director of the event’s organisers Festival Republic, Melvin Benn, said: “We are honoured that Lily Allen is able to step in at the last minute and would like to thank her for filling the headline slot. After her show-stopping performance at Glastonbury Lily was a natural choice, the Latitude audience are in for something really spectacular.”

Two Door Cinema Club have also cancelled a warm-up gig in Bournemouth on Thursday (July 17).

Latitude 2014 will take place from July 17-20 at Henham Park in Southwold, Suffolk. Fellow headliners The Black Keys and Damon Albarn will perform on Saturday and Sunday night of Latitude as planned.
