The song does not make explicit reference to football or the World Cup, bar a mention of Paul ‘Gazza’ Gascoigne, but is more broadly an ode to Britain and things Allen loves about the nation including Shakespeare, John Lennon, the Queen, lager and service stations. Tweeting about the song, Allen wrote: “My unofficial #worldcup song BASS LIKE HOME.” The track was co-written by Kid Harpoon, who has also written for Jessie Ware, Shakira and Florence + The Machine.
Allen releases her next single ‘URL Badman’ on July 13. Lily Allen will perform live at Glastonbury festival later this month and has stated that she is already working on her next album. Allen says she is “halfway through” a fourth LP but admitted she was unsure she would release any new music after that.
