"I wish she was still here" singer says of the late pop star
Lily Allen has spoken out about how she misses the late Amy Winehouse.
In an interview with Spotify, the pop star says both she and Winehouse are often given credit for changing the face of women in pop music.
“I wish Amy Winehouse was still here,” Allen said. “I really do. I miss her a lot, I’ve got to be honest. She wouldn’t stand for any of this. ‘You’re fackin’ havin a laugh!’ So sad. People sometimes say [adopts posh voice] ‘Oh, Lily changed the face of music for women in this decade’. And it’s like, well, Ms. Dynamite did quite well before me and Amy, even though we’re given the accolade of paving the way for females in music. And also, no we didn’t, so what are you talking about?”
Earlier today, Lily Allen was forced to deny suggestions that she was making fun of Beyonce when she dressed up as the singer and performed the dance routine from the ‘Drunk In Love’ video live on stage this weekend.
Allen performed at the G-A-Y club at Heaven in London on Saturday night (April 26) wearing a black bikini similar to the one Beyoncé sports in her music video. Click below to watch fan-shot footage of the performance now.
When video of the performance circulated online, it drew criticism from individuals including Questlove of The Roots, who wrote “so Lily Allen is our cultural critic now?”.
Tweeting after the performance, Allen explained that she did not mean to cause offence, writing “Only one person can tell you what my intentions are, and that would be me. Each time I play G-A-Y I do a cover in drag. 1st time I did Dorothy, last time Britney, this time Queen Bey. Why do people jump to conclusions. I wasn’t mocking Beyoncé , like I wasn’t dissing anyone on #SHEEZUS , this is so fucking boring.”
