'Where the fuck is our Prime Minister?' asks the pop singer
Lily Allen has called out the Prime Minister this morning (June 29) as the fall-out from Brexit continues.
David Cameron announced on Friday (June 26) that he will be stepping down as PM by October after the UK voted by a narrow margin to leave the EU. Three days later, it remains unclear when the government will trigger Article 50, the mechanism by which a country leaves the EU, which has never been used before.
Writing on Twitter, Allen branded Cameron “reckless” because he “has no plan for the outcome” of the referendum. “Utterly shameful, where the fuck is our Prime Minister. Or Boris, or anyone actually IN power ? What is going on ?,” she asked.
“Honestly, I’d feel more reassured if I was told we were now living under a Kardashian dictatorship at this point,” she added.
“The people have spoken Ben,” she said in response to a tweet from fellow musician Fryars aka Ben Garrett. “We want #Brexit. Not #Brexish. Not #Brexish #INVOKEARTICLE50 #STOPBORIS.”
Yesterday (June 29) Anohni called the UK’s vote to leave the EU a “prison riot”.
“The legitimate frustrations compelling poor and working class people to vote ‘leave’ are not going to subside as a result of this catastrophe,” the Mercury Prize-winning artist wrote in a Facebook post. “It is exactly during the cover of a crisis such as Brexit that the richest get even richer and bury their spoils in some far away land, while the poor eat each other’s faces. The grievances of England’s abandoned working classes are going to become even more brutal as a result of Brexit.”
