The 'Smile' star has been outspoken about the refugee crisis and Calais 'jungle'
Lily Allen has hit out at a taxi driver who told her to ‘find an immigrant to drive her’ and called her a ‘stupid tart’ while trying to catch a lift with her children.
The ‘Smile’ star made headlines and split opinion when she made a tearful apology on television on behalf of the whole of the UK to refugee children in the Calais ‘jungle’ migrant camp. She later took to Twitter to defend herself against waves of criticism, accusing her of being a ‘champagne socialist’. She also spoke out against the media for their attempts to silence and Gary Lineker over their very public opinions about the ongoing crisis.
“I went to Calais because I wanted to do what I can to help,” she said. “I wanted to try to remind people of the humanity at the heart of the crisis, at a time when refugees were being demonised in the press.”
Now, she’s revealed her disgust at having a taxi driver tell her to ‘find an immigrant to drive you, you stupid tart’ in front of her children – speaking out against discrimination but calling on everyone to help ‘stamp out this stupid, horrible ignorance’.
