While rock titans Linkin Park go straight to top of album chart...

A song backing a television advert for a men’s deodorant is smelling good at the the top of the UK chart today (March 30) as ‘Make Luv’ by Room 5 ft Oliver Cheatam takes a bow at number one.

Gareth Gates dips to number two with ‘Spirit In The Sky’ while Westlife enter poorly at number three with ‘Tonight’.

Only Coldplay score another new top 10 hit with ‘Clocks’ at nine.

On down the chart, trance veteran Scooter enters at 12 with ‘Weekend’, while Mariah Carey ft Cam’ron beats off Nas – they go in at 17 with ‘Boy (I Need You)’ and he enters at 19 with ‘I Can’.

Into the 20s, Snoopy the cartoon beagle’s doppelganger Snoop Dogg (ft NERD man Pharell Williams) goes in at 23 with ‘Beautiful’ while two places below, Hot Hot Heat do not suffer from being bumped off the Radio 1 playlist entering with debut ‘Bandages’ at 25.

Nu-metal’s demise has been exaggerated in recent times. Multi-million sellers Linkin Park head straight to number one with ‘Meteora’ – an album that will also top the US charts this coming week.

Football loving ginger heartthrob Mick Hucknall enters at two with ‘Home’, two places ahead of Canadian Vegas-loving diva Celine Dion at four, while Irish ballad lover Daniel ‘Day Lewis’ O’Donnell gives young scamps Boyzone a run for their money, as he steadies at five while they cannot enter any higher than six with ‘Ballads – The Love Song Collection’. Good Lord.
