Listen to U2 cover Marvin Gaye’s ‘What’s Going On’

The band recently took part in a Spotify Singles live session

U2 have released a cover of the Marvin Gaye classic ‘What’s Going On’ – check out the track below.

The band, who recently released their divisive new record ‘Songs Of Experience’, have contributed two special live recordings to the Spotify Singles series.

While the first track is a rendition of album cut ‘The Little Things That You Give Away’, the band opted to take on Gaye’s 1971 hit for their second performance – and it’s a fairly restrained moment for Bono and co.

The session was recorded at Neptune Valley, LA.

Meanwhile, the band have hinted that they’ll be playing some huge gigs in the new year – including a show in Manchester.

“Well, we’re gonna be announcing shows,” said bassist Adam Clayton. “After the summer is when they’re gonna go on sale, but we’ll be announcing shows.

“So we’ll save you some seats down the front”.

Prior to the ‘Songs Of Experience’ cycle, the quartet took their seminal album ‘The Joshua Tree’ on the road to mark its 30th anniversary.

Elsewhere, Bono revealed his favourite music of 2017 – which included Jay-Z’s ‘4:44’,  Chance The Rapper track, ‘First World Problems’ and Arcade Fire’s polarising fifth LP ‘Everything Now’.

Asked who they look to for inspiration in the music world today, Edge and Bono name-checked the likes of Royal BloodM83 and Kaytranada.

Songs Of Experience is out now.
