Lorde has topped the Official UK Singles Chart with new single ‘Royals’.

The 16-year-old singer from New Zealand held off X Factor winner James Arthur to claim her first ever UK Number One Single, reports the Official Charts Company.

Speaking about her achievement, Lorde said: ” I’m so incredibly stoked about being Number 1 this week and very grateful to all the UK fans who bought Royals!”

James Arthur’s ‘You’re Nobody ‘Till Somebody Loves You’ is at Number Two, OneRepublic’s ‘Counting Stars’ is at Number Three and Katy Perry’s ‘Roar’ is at Number Four. Showtek’s ‘Booyah’ completes this week’s Top 5.

Elsewhere, X Factor 2012 contestants Union J are new in at Number Eight with ‘Beautiful Life’, Eminem is at Number 22 with ‘Survival’ and Justin Bieber’s ‘Hold Tight’ is at Number 28.

In the Official UK Album Chart, Katy Perry has bagged her second UK Number One with ‘Prism’. Meanwhile, James Blunt has landed his fourth Top 5 album with ‘Moon Landing’ touching down at Number Two. Last week’s chart-topper, ‘Tribute’ by John Newman, is at Number Three. Arctic Monkeys‘ ‘AM’ is at Number Four and ‘Love In Portofino’ by Andrea Bocelli is new in the charts at Number Five.
