Madonna appears on-stage over two hours late at Brisbane gig

The pop star's tardiness was labelled ‘breathtakingly arrogant’

Madonna infuriated fans by appearing on-stage over two hours late at a concert in Brisbane.

The pop star was due to start at 9pm but ticketholders were told that her performance was delayed until 10.30pm – at the earliest. Madonna finally took to the stage at 11.22pm, joking that she was “hardly ever late”.

“It’s you people that get here early that’s the problem,” she said. “Stay home, do your hair and makeup, have a tequila. Roll yourself a fat one … no, I don’t believe in that shit.

“Just come late and I won’t have to come early. We’ve got three more shows and we want to fix the problem.”

Hundreds of fans left the stadium and demanded refunds at the ticket office following the announcement of the delay, reports Billboard.

The last train from the Brisbane concert venue, in the suburb of Boondall, left at 12.15am – an hour before the performance ended – leaving many stranded.

Publicist Live Nation has warned in a statement that Madonna’s second Brisbane show could also be delayed on Thursday. “Following a late start last night, fans should note, the timing for tonight’s performance may also be delayed.

“We encourage concert goers to keep this in consideration when making arrangements to get home safely.”

Madonna last performed in Australia in 1993, she then went on to cancel the Australian legs of both her Confessions tour in 2006 and the Sticky and Sweet tour in 2008.
