Nude Madonna and Guy Ritchie painting to be auctioned

Interest in artwork sparked by divorce

A nude painting of Madonna and ex-husband Guy Ritchie will be put up for auction on the weekend (May 30).

The work was painted by Scottish artist Peter Howson in 2005, and is expected to fetch up to £22,000 at McTear’s auction house in Glasgow.

Brian Clements from the auctioneers told the Telegraph that “there is no doubt that the recent split of Madonna and Guy has generated increased interest in the painting”.

The couple, who were married in 2000, were granted a ‘quickie’ divorce at the end of last year.

“The painting created a huge amount of controversy when it was unveiled a few years ago and I think it’s safe to say it is one of a kind,” Clements added.

In February a nude photograph of Madonna taken in 1979 sold for £25,000.
