Madonna adoption bid challenged

Child rights groups express their outrage

Madonna‘s bid to adopt a child has been challenged by Malawian child rights groups.

The singer is facing a possible injunction from the Eye Of the Child organisation after she filed adoption papers for one-year-old David Banda.

The group are being supported by another Malawian human rights group called The Civil Liberties Committe in their bid to stop the interim adoption, reports BBC News.

In a statement, Eye Of The Child said: “It’s not like selling property. It’s about safeguarding the future of a human being who, because of age, cannot express an opinion”.

Malawian officials claim that Madonna will spend time with the child while she awaits the final adoption approval which could take up to two years.

David has been cared for at the Home of Hope Orphan Care Centre near Zambia ever since his mother died after childbirth complications.
