The Guy Ritchie feature tanks...
Madonna‘s new film ‘SWEPT AWAY’ has stiffed in the US, opening well outside the Top 10 in its first weekend (October 11-13).
The film, directed by her husband Guy Ritchie, lifted just $375,000 in three days, quite some way behind the country’s top film ‘Red Dragon’ which walked away with receipts of $17.6million. A late surge of publicity for ‘Swept Away’, which saw actor Vincent D’Onofrio attempt to have its release blocked claiming the idea for the feature was his, didn’t help. Neither did slating reviews. USA Today said it could be a contender for a Razzie, the “anti-Oscar” awards given to the year’s worst films.
In ‘Swept Away’, Madonna stars as a wealthy U.S. woman who becomes stranded on a Greek island with an Italian fisherman, played by Adriano Giannini. It is due to open in the UK next spring.
