During a high-energy, hit-packed set, Major Lazer DJs Diplo and Jillionaire frequently traded places behind the decks and leading the crowd while vocalist Walshy Fire told the crowd in Victoria Park that: “London is the number one party capital of the world.”

Earlier in the day, Diplo had also played a solo DJ set while the Lovebox main stage had seen performances from Katy B and Run The Jewels, who performed beneath giant inflatable versions of their signature hand gestures. After an energetic opening to their show, El-P joked: “I just want you all to know that I’ve got my brand new Reeboks, which I bought in honour of this show, really dirty. That’s the kind of sacrifice that we’re willing to make.”

Before ‘Close Your Eyes (And Count To Fuck)’, he added: “I want to apologise to all the people who came to see Run The Jewels and didn’t know what they were getting into. I also want to apologise to all the people in the first 15 rows with expensive cameras, extendable selfie sticks – you narcissists – and colostomy bags. Put all those things away, we’re gonna give you a count of five before we fuck things up.”

El-P also offered a comparison of British and American politics, suggesting that in both countries: “We live in a world run by fucking arseholes.” This led into an energetic version of ‘Lie, Cheat, Steal.’

Lovebox Festival continues today (16 July) with performances from LCD Soundsystem, Jungle and George Clinton.
