2015 single has been streamed 526 million times
Major Lazer & DJ Snake’s single ‘Lean On’ has been named as the most streamed song of all time on Spotify.
The music-streaming service revealed today (November 12) that the track has been played 526 million times in the eight months since its release. ‘Lean On’ was released in March this year and features vocals from Norwegian pop star MØ.
‘Lean On’ featured on Major Lazer’s third studio album ‘Peace is the Mission’, which reached 25 on the UK’s Official Albums Chart and number 12 on the Billboard 200 in the US.
Diplo from Major Lazer revealed earlier this year that ‘Lean On’ was initially turned down by both Nicki Minaj and Rihanna, but regarded this as a “blessing in disguise”. Later adding “MØ sounds better than anybody was going to sound on that record.”

Ed Sheeran’s ‘Thinking Out Loud’ previously held the record and was also the first song to reach over 500m streams on Spotify.
Diplo also released ‘Where Are Ü Now’ under the moniker Jack Ü this year. That song, which features vocals from Justin Bieber, has 335 million Spotify streams. Jack Ü (Diplo & Skrillex) have also recorded music with Arcade Fire’s Win Butler and Régine Chassagne. Diplo revealed that they had recorded an album’s worth of material in July.
Speaking to Charlie Rose on the PBS chat show he said: “We went to Montreal, and we had a day with Arcade Fire. A friend of mine was there, and we just said ‘Hey, let’s go meet up with you guys’. We went to his garage and just literally played for 20 minutes, just everybody on an instrument. I got the files from them, and now I edit it down these loops in little pieces.”
