Manic Street Preachers say ‘National Treasures’ documents ‘the indie wars’

Band also talk about their plans for their December London show

Manic Street Preachers frontman James Dean Bradfield has said that the band decided to release a new singles collection to show what happened in “the indie wars”.

The band release ‘National Treasures’, a new compilation which features all 38 of their singles, on October 31 and Bradfield told XFM that the band felt it was important to document the chart success they’d enjoyed as they believe “guitar bands don’t really have hit singles anymore”.

He said of this:

You kind of get a sense that guitar bands don’t really have hit singles any more. Because the Top 40 is so full of pop records now. We just want to show what the era was before this era. We want to be positive about it and say ‘This is what happened in the indie wars’.

The band are set to play all 38 singles from their compilation at a one-off show at London’s O2 Arena on December 17.

Bradfield also spoke about the show and promised a mammoth set, which would last around four hours. He added: “This is going to be the only time we play ever major single we’ve ever released. We’ll be playing chronologically, mostly. We’ll be playing for about four hours!”

The band have indicated that ‘National Treasures’ will be their last activity for at least two years.
