Manics star gives Xmas present to fans

First taste of solo material in Christmas download

Manic Street Preachers bassist Nicky Wire is giving away a free download of his solo material.

The bassist has been working on his own project during downtime from the Manics. Today only (December 25), a track called ‘Killed The Zeitgeist’ is available for free download from the band’s official website, www.manics.co.uk.

Also, Manic Street Preachers have been announced to join Super Furry Animals, The Darkness and The Strokes at a massive concert in Cardiff next year.

‘The One Earth Concert’ will take place at the Millennium Stadium January 28 and, as first tipped on NME.COM, takes place in support of a global campaign to tackle environmental change.

Ten acts are to be announced for the show, which will be broadcast in the UK by the BBC. The event’s aim is to convert one million European households to renewable energy as part of a not-for-profit, non-political, ethical initiative (CCN), with any proceeds going to the UK-based charitable organisation One Earth Trust.

Bands will play for between 20 and 40 minutes. In between the sets “worldwide celebrities and dignitaries will encourage the public to switch to renewable energy via video and films”, organisers say.

Michael Mathres, co-founder of Climate Change Now, said: “People are genuinely concerned about the effects of climate change, but don’t know how easy it is to make a big difference. The concert will focus attention on the part we can all play in tackling climate change. One Earth’s purpose is to use the power of popular culture to inspire, communicate and drive positive social and environmental change and we have chosen the Millennium Stadium and this event as the ideal starting point for our campaign.”

Tickets for the concert are £40 and are available from oneearthconcert.com.
