MANICS TELL THEIR TRUTH

THE MANIC STREET PREACHERS returned to live action in the UK on Sunday...

THE MANIC STREET PREACHERS played their first mainland UK gig this year at Cardiff Cooper’s Field on Sunday, September 13 as part of Radio 1’s Cardiff Live show. 10,000 people attended a show that included a surprise acoustic set from Embrace – who were headlining that same night at Cardiff University – as well as sets from HURRICANE NO 1, REPUBLICA, ROBBIE WILLIAMS, THE DIVINE COMEDY and ASH. Live performances were linked by DJ PUNK ROCK and PETE TONG.

The Manics’ 20-minute set, introduced by Jo Whiley, consisted of ‘Australia’, ‘If You Tolerate This Your Children Will Be Next’, ‘Everything Must Go’, ‘Tsunami’ and ‘Design For Life’. The band made no comments between songs; all acts on the day were limited to short sets.

Later, a crowd of around 5000 fans gathered outside the Cardiff Virgin Megastore for a signing session of the new Manics album ‘This Is My Truth, Show Me Yours’. Many of them had waited since midday to meet the band.

Apart from the Manics, the highlight of the day was Robbie Williams’ performance. Taking the stage after it was announced that ‘Millenium’ was number one in the charts, Robbie played ‘Let Me Entertain You’, ‘Millenium’ and a very emotional ‘Angel’.
