Manic Street Preachers have joined the line-up of BBC Radio 2 Live In Hyde Park.

The big outdoor bash is now in its sixth year and Manics bassist Nicky Wire confirmed the band’s appearance at this year’s event during the BBC Radio 2 breakfast show this morning (June 5). It takes place on September 8 and the line-up also includes Simple Minds, Texas, Jamie Cullum and Jack Johnson.

Entry is £35 for adults and £10 for children aged 3 to 13 and further information on how to purchase tickets will be made available on the BBC Radio 2 website at 8.15am this Friday (June 7).

Manic Street Preachers told NME last month (May) that they’ve recently recorded 35 new songs to be split across two separate albums: one acoustic, the other with a “European fascination”.

The band are about to embark on a series of concerts in Australia in conjunction with the British & Irish Lions tour this summer. The band lined up shows in Melbourne and Sydney for this month and July so they can watch the team take on Australia. They will also travel to Auckland, New Zealand, during a break between games. The Welsh trio made the decision after they heard the news that 15 Welsh players will be among the 37-man squad for the 10-match tour.

The Manics are also due to play Festival No 6 at the village of Portmeirion in North Wales over the weekend of September 13-15. Other acts on the bill include Neon Neon, James Blake, Everything Everything, Jagwar Ma, Temples and AlunaGeorge. For more information head to Festivalnumber6.com now.
