Manics, Joy Formidable, The Blackout all nominated for newly created Welsh Music Prize

Funeral For A Friend, Gruff Rhys also up for new accolade

Manic Street Preachers, The Joy Formidable and The Blackout are among the acts nominated for the inaugral Welsh Music Prize, which is being billed as Wales’ equivalent to the Mercury Music Prize.

The prize, which has been set up by BBC Radio 1 DJ Huw Stephens and music promoter John Rostron, will be awarded during SWN festival in October.

Other nominated artists for the prize include Funeral For A Friend, Gruff Rhys and Y Niwl.

The winner will be picked by a panel of 10, with neither Rostron or Stephens able to vote themselves.
