Marilyn Manson says attack at Canadian diner was unprovoked

Rocker was punched in the face in the early hours of Sunday morning

Marilyn Manson has denied making comments that caused a man to punch him in the face at a late night diner in Canada.

TMZ reports that Manson attended a branch of Denny’s in Alberta, Canada in the early hours of Sunday morning (April 5) where, it is alleged, an argument broke out during which Manson insulted another diner’s girlfriend. It was reported that the man then punched Manson in the face.

Manson’s manager has since insisted that the attack was unprovoked. The spokesperson told TMZ that a man approached Manson while two girls were asking him for a photographer. It is claimed that the individual punched Manson before being restrained by security, and then began ranting about blowing up Manson’s next concert. It is also claimed that the attacker elbowed Manson’s make-up artist in the face – and the pair say they will press charges.

A witness corroborated Manson’s manager’s version of events in an interview with the Toronto Sun. The witness, Johnny Scott, said: “Manson never got a chance to sit down. He was being friendly with everyone, anyone who wanted a picture, he would give them a picture, anyone who wanted an autograph he would give them an autograph. They were just talking and the guy just punched him right in the face without any provocation.”

The witness added that Manson’s nose was bleeding following the incident, and that the performer was left feeling “pissed off because he was being nice”.

Lethbridge police confirmed that they were called to the restaurant at 2.45am on Sunday following reports of a physical altercation. A statement reads: “Three people were involved in the altercation which resulted in minor injuries. No charges were laid and the file is concluded.”

Manson’s ninth studio album ‘The Pale Emperor’ was released in January 2015. The singer has been confirmed to headline the second stage of Download Festival on June 13.
