Mark Kozelek releases 15-minute track in response to Florida school shooting

'Day in America'

Mark Kozelek has responded to the Florida school shooting with the release of a 15-minute track titled ‘Day in America’.

The school shooting took place on February 14 in Parkland, Florida. The 19-year-old former student shot and killed 17 people in the attack.

Since the shooting, many have been calling for America to reform their gun laws. Kozelek addresses the shooting and the lack of gun control laws in his new song.

Lines from the song include: “The Republicans believe in their right to bear arms/No matter the rising death toll and the amount of harm it causes to innocent people” and “I think they should go Django Unchained on the killer they caught/Hang him upside down and cut off his balls.”

Towards the end of the 15-minute track. Kozelek says, “Escorting this man from the planet is in everyone’s best interest/When a guy kills 17 kids, dispose of him quick and fast.”

While this particular track was recorded on February 14 and 15, its also the first to be released from Mark Kozelek’s collaborative album with Donny McCaslin and Jim White. That album is titled Mark Kozelek with Donny McCaslin and Jim White and is expected to be released in 2019.

‘Day in America’ is also said to be inspired by an email from character actor Kevin Corrigan, who has a spoken word piece at the end of the track.
