Former Number One hit was the biggest-selling song of 2015
Mark Ronson has teamed up with six unknown musicians for a new version of his Number One hit ‘Uptown Funk’.
The superproducer invited the group to London’s Abbey Road studios to lay down a rearranged take on the track after seeing their own performances of the song on YouTube. You can watch the new version below.
“It was brilliant to bring together six unique talents and produce a new cover of my track,” Ronson said. “It’s an honour that such talented people are interested in my music, and I loved working with the group – they shared such a good energy, and we created something special. It’s the first time I’ve ever produced a cover of one of my own songs, and I really enjoyed it.”
The group of performers, didn’t know they were recording their rendition for Ronson. Instead they assumed they were covering it for a documentary about the superproducer.
The video was recorded as part of the MasterCard Priceless Surprises campaign to mark the upcoming BRIT Awards next month (Feb16).
‘Uptown Funk’ was the UK’s biggest-selling song of 2015. The track ended the year with a combined sales and streaming total of 1.76 million. Since its release in November 2014, the track reached 2.25 million combined sales and streams.
‘Uptown Funk’ beat off competition from OMI’s ‘Cheerleader’ (Felix Jaehn remix), Hozier’s ‘Take Me To Church’, Ellie Goulding’s ‘Love Me Like You Do’ and Wiz Khalifa’s ‘See You Again’, which took the two, three, four and five spots respectively.
Justin Bieber, meanwhile, logged four entries in the Top 40, two of which (‘What Do You Mean?’ and ‘Sorry’) landed in the Top 10.
