Watch Cate Blanchett’s face decompose in Massive Attack’s new video for ‘The Spoils’

Song features Mazzy Star's Hope Sandoval

Massive Attack have shared a new video, starring actress Cate Blanchett.

The John Hillcoat-directed clip for ‘The Spoils’ sees Blanchett’s face morph and change shape before turning to stone and slowly decomposing. Watch beneath.

The track, which features Mazzy Star’s Hope Sandoval, was recently unveiled through the band’s new app Fantom. Designed in part by the group’s own Robert del Naja, the Fantom app was launched earlier this year. It’s described as a “sensory music player that remixes and reforms songs uniquely using a variety of environmental variables including location, movement, time of day, heartbeat and the integral moving image camera.”

Last month (July), Massive Attack headlined the first night of this year’’s British Summer Time festival at London’s Hyde Park.

During the set, Massive Attack performed their 1994 song ‘Eurochild’ for the first time in 18 years.

It was seemingly a response to the previous month’s EU referendum results, with group member 3D stating: “We didn’t expect to be singing this 20 years later as a requiem.”

Massive Attack are now preparing to play a huge homecoming show at Bristol Downs on September 3, with Primal Scream and Skepta confirmed as support for the all-dayer.
