Mel C speaks out about Spice Girls reunion talks and calls it ‘worst kept secret in showbiz’

The girl group met up last week to reportedly discuss new projects together

Mel C has spoken about the Spice Girls reunion talks for the first time, calling them the “worst kept secret in showbiz”.

All five members of the girl group met up last week (February 2) to reportedly discuss reuniting for the first time since 2012.

The band are believed to have talked about working on a series of upcoming projects, including TV shows, endorsements, and a greatest hits compilation.

Speaking to Dermot O’Leary for his BBC Radio 2 show, Mel C said: “The funny thing is, unfortunately, we can’t do anything without it being all over the press. It’s the worst kept secret in showbiz, isn’t it?”

She added that while it was “lovely to get together” and the group are “talking about opportunities and ideas” for the future, it was still “early stages and there’s nothing set in stone”. “There’s no big announcement,” she said. “But it’s just great to be back in Spice World and to see the reaction.”

On Friday, the group reportedly released a statement via via publicist Jo Milloy confirming they were talking about working on new projects. “We have enjoyed a wonderful afternoon catching-up and reminiscing about the amazing times we have spent together,” it read.

“We are always overwhelmed at how much interest there is across the whole world for The Spice Girls. The time now feels right to explore some incredible new opportunities together. We all agree that there are many exciting possibilities that will once again embrace the original essence of The Spice Girls, while reinforcing our message of female empowerment for future generations.”
