Metallica offer crowd ‘drum solo or cover’ at Lisbon gig

Metal legends get interactive in Portugal

Metallica wrapped up their current run of European dates in Portugal’s capital Lisbon last night (May 19) by letting the crowd decide part of their setlist.

The band, who are set to head to Israel before returning to play in France on May 23, offered the crowd at the Pavilhao Atlantico a choice between a “drum solo or a cover”, with the crowd opting for the latter.

As a result James Hetfield and co launched into a version of Diamond Head‘s ‘Helpless’.

The interactive part of the gig came towards the end of the show, which saw the band play a career-spanning set.

Metallica played:

‘That Was Just Your Life’
‘Cyanide’
‘For Whom The Bell Tolls’
‘Shortest Straw’
‘The Day That Never Comes’
‘Sad But True’
‘Wherever I May Roam’
‘No Remorse’
‘Turn The Page’
‘All Nightmare Long’
‘One’
‘Master Of Puppets’
‘Damage Inc’
‘Nothing Else Matters’
‘Enter Sandman’
‘Helpless’
‘Motorbreath’
‘Seek And Destroy’

The band are now set to play Tel Aviv‘s Ramat Gan Stadium on May 22, before returning to Europe.
