Rumours circulate online, but organisers say 'No'...

METALLICA are rumoured to be playing at the DOWNLOAD FESTIVAL this weekend (May 31-June 1)

The band are said to be appearing on the second day of the two-day festival at Donington Park on the Scuzz stage.

Rumours are circulating that Metallica, who last played in the UK in 1999, will appear during the ‘late afternoon.’

However, organisers are playing down the reports. A statement issued today reads: “We are huge Metallica fans at Download and would be honoured to have them performing at our festival. However, they are not playing at Download. We gather a rumour was started when we added Apocalyptica to the bill earlier

this week.”

The group will be joining NOFX, Zwan, and Boysetsfire on the Second Stage, whilst headliners on the Main Stage include Audioslave, [/a], Marilyn Manson and [a].

Metallica‘s new album ‘St Anger’ is released on June 9.
