Metallica and Taylor Swift set for US version of Rock In Rio festival

Linkin Park and Deftones also set to appear as Brazilian event branches out into Las Vegas

Taylor Swift and Metallica are among the acts who have been confirmed for the first ever Rock In Rio festival to be held in America.

The Brazilian festival is branching out in 2015 with a US version of the annual event set to be held in Las Vegas. No Doubt, Deftones, Linkin Park and John Legend will also appear on the bill, according to Rolling Stone. The line-up was announced at a New York event on Friday (September 26).

Traditionally held in Rio De Janeiro, Rock In Rio was first staged in 1985. The Las Vegas based event will take place over the weekends of May 8-9 and May 15-16, 2015 in the grounds of the MGM Resort.

Organisers are reportedly working with Cirque du Soleil to build a permanent open-air “City of Rock” venue featuring 6 stages. Included in the grounds will be three themed “Rock Streets” built around the culture and music of the U.S., the U.K. and Brazil.

Rock In Rio will also take place in Brazil in September 2015 with Katy Perry already confirmed as the headline act.
