Plus Robyn, Sleigh Bells and Surfer Blood rock the Helsinki bash
The singer drew a massive crowd to the Main Stage for a spectacular show which saw her team up with Sleigh Bells guitarist and labelmate Derek E. Miller.
The singer, who drafted in three backing singers, a dancer and a DJ for the show, performed a host of tracks from all of her three albums – 2005’s ‘Arular’, 2007’s ‘Kala’ and her recent LP ‘Maya’ – against a backdrop of multi-coloured lasers.
MIA, who was dressed in shades and a grey trenchcoat, said very little throughout her set, much of which she spent venturing into the crowd.
During ‘Boyz’, she also brought a group of guys onstage to dance, before she was joined by Miller on guitar for ‘Meds And Feds’, a track he produced – the song features a riff from the title track to Sleigh Bells‘ recent debut album ‘Treats’. Watch footage of the track below.
“It’s only the second time Derek has done it but I’m sure he had a lot of fun getting up there and playing,” the noise pop duo’s singer Alexis Krauss said, before adding: “Unfortunately I missed him because I really wanted to check out Beach House. I hope he didn’t mind.”
The show ended with ‘Born Free’ and 2008 hit single ‘Paper Planes’.

Later Sleigh Bells headlined the Tent Stage against a huge stack of amplifiers as the pair performed tracks from their debut including ‘A/B Machines’ and ‘Crown On The Ground’, which saw Krauss kicking off a call and response with the crowd.
“We were really excited to do our first headline slot,” she said. “There was a lot of volume and it was really heavy but it hopefully came across like a dance DJ set too.”
Earlier, Robyn took to the Main Stage with a four-piece backing band for a dance-driven set. The performance featured tracks from her recent album ‘Body Talk Pt. 1’, including hit single ‘Dancing On My Own’, ‘Fembot’ and ‘Don’t Fucking Tell Me What To Do’.
She also sang ‘The Girl And The Robot’ from Royksopp‘s 2009 album ‘Junior’, and the Christian Falk single ‘Dream On’, which she also features on, before wrapping up her performance with 2007 Number One hit ‘With Every Heartbeat’.
Surfer Blood pulled in a huge crowd for their early set on the Tent Stage, as they reeled off tracks from their recent debut ‘Astro Coast’, including ‘Twin Peaks’.
