REM’s ‘Everybody Hurts’ tops poll of ‘songs that make men cry’

The Verve, U2 and Bruce Springsteen also feature in the Top 10 list

R.E.M‘s ‘Everybody Hurts’ has topped a poll of songs that make men cry the most.

According to a survey by PRS for Music, the group’s 1993 single came top of the list, followed by Eric Clapton‘s ‘Tears In Heaven’ and Leonard Cohen‘s ‘Hallelujah’.

“A well-written tear-jerker is one that people can relate to and empathise with,” Ellis Rich, PRS for Music‘s chairman, said in a statement. “It is this lyrical connection that can reach deep down emotionally and move even the strongest of men.”
