US magazine Time gives thumbs down to the singer's 'Blurred Lines' performance

Miley Cyrus has been named Time’s Worst Dressed Celebrity Of 2013 despite earning a spot in the magazine’s Best Dressed list.

The magazine selected the nude PVC two-piece Cyrus wore for her now-infamous performance of ‘Blurred Lines’ at the MTV VMAs as the biggest fashion mistake of the year.

The performance has been heavily criticised by figures including Sinead O’Connor.

Despite her ranking top of the Worst Dressed poll, the singer did appear in the magazine’s Best Dressed list for the floor-length green sequin gown she wore for Fashion Group International’s Night of the Stars.

She is also leading the magazine’s Person Of The Year poll ahead of NSA leaker Edward Snowden and the Pope, with 24 per cent of all votes cast.

Cyrus was praised by Sara Quin of Tegan and Sara, while speaking to NME in this week’s issue, which is available digitally and on newsstands now. “The controversy around her shouldn’t distract from her being a quintessential pop star,” says Quin.

“She’s this generation’s Madonna – a hugely talented pop star with agency over her body and sexuality, which terrifies people. And she’s constantly switching up between sounds. ‘Bangerz’ is part electro, part country, part rap, all incredible.”
