High street retailer Waterstones tips 'Autobiography' to be a popular gift this year
Morrissey‘s autobiography is on course to be a Christmas best-seller, according to high street retailer Waterstones.
The book was published yesterday (October 17) and contains revelations about the former Smiths singer’s professional and personal life.
Speaking to Associated Press, Jon Howells, spokesman for the Waterstones book store chain, said that he expects the book to sell well in the run up to Christmas. “In Britain, he is one of our icons,” Howells said. “His is the great untold story from the ’80s generation of music heroes.” Autobiography is also Number One on the Amazon best-sellers list at the time of writing.
Morrissey launched his eagerly-awaited book with a signing in Sweden yesterday (October 17). The former frontman of The Smiths appeared on the book’s European launch date in person at Akademibokhandeln Nordstan in Gothenburg to sign copies of his memoir. In an announcement, Morrissey fan site True To You added “No additional book signings are planned”. The cover of the book is pictured above. A US release date has yet to be confirmed.
Morrissey: Autobiography was originally due for release on September 16 but a statement three days prior to that date explained that the book would no longer be available on that date and would not even be published by Penguin.
